How to set up a check-in kiosk or front-desk tablet

A kiosk at your counter shows a QR code customers scan with their own phone, or lets them check in right on the screen. A dedicated tablet takes customers through check-in on the tablet itself.

Set up the device

  1. On the tablet or computer, sign in as the owner or a manager. In the menu, tap Launch Counter Kiosk (or Launch Check-in Tablet for a front-desk tablet).
  2. When asked Use this device as your kiosk?, tap Use this device. If you have more than one, pick Which kiosk is this? first.
  3. The device signs out of your account, so customers can’t open your business screens from it.

For a numbered front-desk tablet, enter a Tablet number under Dedicated check-in tablets and tap Set up Tablet with that number.

Set up your kiosk has step-by-step lists for iPad, Android and Windows, including Keep this screen awake.

The counter QR code

The QR code on the kiosk changes about every minute, so a photo of it or a copy taken home can’t be used to check in later. Someone who scans an old code sees: “This secure entry code expired. Scan the current code at the business and try again.”

Privacy between guests

  • If nobody touches the screen for a while (30 seconds by default), it asks Still there? and clears itself 10 seconds later. Starting over never cancels a check-in already confirmed.
  • After someone checks in, their ticket shows for 15 seconds, then the screen resets for the next guest.
